It’s time to break away from the British Privy Council according to The Barbados House of Assembly which approved legislation to do so.

As of 16th April, the Caribbean Court of Justice will be the final court of appeal for Barbados.

Guyana and now Barbados are the 2 Caribbean countries to sever legal ties with the Privy Council. Supporters of the new Caribbean Court of Justice say that Caribbean regional sovereignty will improve by getting rid of the Privy Council.

The Barbados Attorney General Mia Mottley said: "It brings us closer to a point where we shall forever enter a phase where we will be responsible for our own destiny as it is related to the handling of the judicial arm of government".

According to Barbados Prime Minister Owen Arthur, great care was judicially and financially independent.
